The years spent selflessly caring for you
And now were older where are you?
All gone, your lives apart from me
No longer your smiling faces do I see
We do not realise at the time
When were happy and in our prime
We yearn for the years to pass us by
And it has, in the twinkling of an eye
A visit, a text now and again
Is the only memory we now retain
We see on social media how you live your lives
We are now just one of the lonely wives
Did you know we gave up so much just for you?
And now we’d like the same from you
But 'us empty nesters’ will wait in vain
And tirelessly hide our pain
