The absent man

dad

My childhood years, where were you?
My guardian, my hero, my role model too
The absent man, you turned away
From a family, a wife, a happy day

My teenage years you never knew
The young woman into which I grew
The absent man, you cheated and lied
And looked to another in which to confide

My adult life, you’re missing too
My best times spent without you
The absent man gone to another land
A man who let my love slip through his hand

No regret, no emotion, they were never there
A man with a gun, who just didn’t care
And as another day comes to an end
I pray that next time my Dad is my friend
