The Plummet of Icarus

Inside the sunset, fierce and fiery
My vision burned and turned black before me
And I fell, like an angel, wings ablaze
Blinded by the sun’s alluring rays
There was no tomb to catch my body
I fell like the walls of Rome
My flesh and bones crumbled into ashes
So the wind could shepherd me home

(2009)

Ironically, this was written long before I knew the myth of Daedalus and Icarus; the title came later.
