Depth in the Shallows

Late 2000s.

Within a room I once could see
The walls around in intimate light
It began to glow and weaken swiftly
Creating a barrier I could not fight.
There in a pit
I laid so bare
I like the dark and the dark like me
Beside me like a warm love with cold feet
Like the dark and dark like me
Having never known the light of day.
I trembled in this fatal place
A poison, thick in my veins.
Liquifying me free and ruinous
Revealing nothing but my pains
That illness had me kneeling
Probing for ground mislaid
You found me in that darkness
I in prison and yet you stayed
In this haven built of guilt
A place hell might call home
You bringing me to life again
So I no longer alone.

Was it you who lifted me to radiance?
I like the dark and the dark like me.
Was it you who gave me reason to love?
Wasn’t it you who made me see?
it was I.
And only I that I had to rise above.

Isn’t that nice and short and sweet. I knew how to stop my brain when I was 17 or 18 .. not 15
